Dr. Sara Tullis Wester is a Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (BPEI), specializing in Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) and Oculoplastics. She transitioned from investment banking at Goldman Sachs to medicine, earning her degree from Harvard Medical School and completing residency and ASOPRS fellowship training at BPEI. Dr. Wester has led clinical and basic science research on TED, participating in multi-center clinical studies and speaking at national and international conferences. She has held key leadership roles in Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) (2018-2024) and the North American Society of Academic Orbital Surgeons, where she organized major academic meetings. She is actively engaged in AAO and ASOPRS, receiving the AAO Achievement Award and chairing ASOPRS’ Global Opportunities Committee. She now serves as an advisor and member of the Global Advisory Council for ACE Global. Additionally, she has made significant contributions to medical education, founding an Orbital Anatomy Dissection Course at BPEI. Her accolades include the Women in Ophthalmology Humanitarian Award, the University of Miami Trailblazer Award, and recognition as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2019.
