Dr. Lucia Silva is a Medical Doctor and Ophthalmic Surgeon trained at the University of San Carlos de Guatemala, with a residency and fellowship in Cataract and Glaucoma Surgery from the National Ophthalmology Unit. Since 2015, she has been part of the ophthalmology team at Visualiza, a leading eye care provider in Central America focused on blindness prevention in low-income populations. In 2017, she was appointed Medical Director of Visualiza, where she has led improvements in clinical protocols, surgical care, and staff training, while supporting research and gender equity in leadership. She also oversees the development of vision centers across Guatemala, incorporating telemedicine to expand access. A Harvard-trained Surgical Leadership Program graduate, she is a member of SEVA’s International Medical Directors Council and serves on the Advisory Council of Women Leaders in Eye Health (WLEH) for 2025.
